I’m so fucking guilty of this trope in like everything.
With a shrug, he kept a grin on his face he didn’t realise he had just for the girl he had grown so accustomed to. “The words of a woman who is about to fall in love with the next person they meet.” He teased, eyes flitting about the room of people several years his junior. He wished he was that young once more.
“You ought to abandon me to one side for a bit, you know? I am perfectly content sat in the corner begrudgingly with a glass of flat Coke from a plastic bottle scowling at my lost youth.” Adam grinned, leaning his chin on his hand that was propped up by the armrest on the wheelchair. “Socialise with your classmates and such. You spend enough time with me.”
“Oh, hell no – you do not get to hang out here playing Gatsby while I have to go out there and talk to people,” she said. “I’d much rather sulk with you. Besides, what sort of sober companion would I be if I just abandoned a sad old man?”
The truth was, Annie often forgot just how big the gap between Adam and herself actually was – just a bit over ten years wasn’t a lot, yet at the same time, it was. It was certainly enough that whenever one mentioned pop culture they’d grown up with, the other didn’t have the faintest clue what they were talking about.
